Discover the draughtsman Caspar David Friedrich at the Kupferstich-Kabinett Dresden!

On the occasion of the 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich, the Dresden State Art Collections invite you to an impressive special exhibition in the Albertinum (24.08.2024-05.01.2025) and in the Kupferstich-Kabinett (24.08.-17.11.2024).

Caspar David Friedrich. Where it all started - The draughtsman

Discover Caspar David Friedrich's passionate drawings in the Kupferstich-Kabinett in Dresden's Residenzschloss. Let yourself be swept away by Friedrich's precise yet emotional sketches, which he made on his wanderings around Dresden and beyond. Feel for yourself how deeply he grasped nature and follow his footsteps on his hiking routes.

The highlight: Besides impressive drawings, a rare manuscript by Friedrich awaits you. Learn more about his thoughts on the art of his time and immerse yourself in his art theoretical reflections. Important loans from renowned museums and private collections enrich this intimate insight into the mind of Friedrich.

As part of a nationwide festival in honour of the artist, the exhibition in Dresden concludes the series before a major retrospective in New York in 2025.
