Promoting tourism in Dresden
We are active in 14 foreign markets plus Germany, selectively tailoring our message for different markets.
Dresden is highly attractive in all foreign markets for a variety of reasons. Tourists from Austria, Switzerland and the United States, for example, are primarily inspired by the sightseeing, whereas visitors from the UK and Russia appreciate Dresden more as “a beautiful city with an important history”.
Our focus internationally is on the USA, Switzerland, Austria, the UK, the Netherlands, Spain, China, Russia, Poland, Italy, Japan, France, the Czech Republic and Brazil – a list that also reflects the ranking of the these countries in terms of overnight stays in 2015.
We have effective marketing tools at our disposal: trade fairs, roadshows, workshops and individual Dresden presentations. Trade fairs offer countless possibilities for direct customer contacts, ongoing customer care and the acquisition of new customers. Partners from Dresden and the surrounding area can also have a beneficial influence on their own marketing by entering into collaborative ventures with Dresden Marketing Board.
Our focus is clearly on trade fairs and professional workshops in Germany and on our defined target markets: B2B communication in its purest form. B2C communication by means of shows intended for the general public mainly takes place via dedicated partners (Tourismus Marketing Gesellschaft Sachsen and AK Messen).
Marketing tools are one thing, but entering into the right partnerships is another. For this reason, we rely heavily on the support and global advertising reach of the German National Tourist Board (Deutsche Zentrale für Tourismus e.V.) in promoting Dresden on the international stage. At selected fairs, we join forces with our colleagues from Tourismus Marketing Gesellschaft Sachsen (TMGS), exploiting synergies to full effect.
In addition, DMG represents the City of Dresden through its membership of Magic Cities, a marketing association of major German metropolises. In the international market, DMG extends its primary focus on the city of Dresden to include the attractive surroundings such as the Saxon Elbland.
