The joys of Christmas shopping – exquisite and original

Christmas is the time for presents. Something wonderful for your nearest and dearest – and for yourself too. What you want is a great selection of unique items. That is Dresden! The city is a paradise for shoppers the whole year through. The city’s most famous shopping mile, Prager Straße, is one of the ten most popular shopping streets in Germany. Shopping in Dresden, the "Capital of Christmas", during the Advent season is something very special.

Tips

  • During Advent, downtown Dresden does not just have one Christmas market – it has several. In addition to the famous Striezelmarkt and the romantic markets on and around Neumarkt, the shopping street Prager Straße has a wonderful Christmas atmosphere. Here the shoppers stroll through the "Adventslichter" market (the Advent lights market). The shops and shopping galleries, such as the Altmarkt-Galerie Dresden, Centrum Galerie and the QF Quartier an der Frauenkirche at Neumarkt are festively decorated.

  • In addition to the large, brand name shops, there are also a lot of small owner-operated shops. Here too, Dresden has a lot of special things to offer. See for yourself by taking a stroll through Neustadt, for example. You will find lots of novel items in the Kunsthof-Passage Dresden, impressive things in Dresden’s Baroque Quarter around Königstraße. Enticing Christmas smells can be discovered in Zaffaran Gewürzatelier on Martin-Luther-Straße. Zaffaran is a shop that not only offers the best herbs and spices you need to make the finest dishes, they also offer seminars and taste testing.

  • Cinnamon, cloves and curry come from countries far away. But Dresden also has lots of local products on offer. Finest sweets made by Dresdner Schokoladenhandwerk make fantastic presents, as do handmade soaps from Einseifer or wines from the vineyards around the city and in the Saxon Elbland. The selection is huge.

  • Whatever you do: make sure you enjoy Advent in Dresden and in Elbland! And make sure your Christmas shopping is nice and relaxed. You have enough time to find just the right thing for your loved ones and yourself. In and around Dresden there are a number of Sundays where the shops are open for business. The shops in Dresden will be open on Sunday 10 December. In Meißen it will be 3 and 17 December, in Radebeul and Pirna 3 and 24 December, in Torgau 10 and 17 December, in Weinböhla 10 December and in Freital, 17 December.
