Tips

  • “Stollen” is the famous culinary highlight of the Christmas season in Dresden. There are many wonderful places throughout the city where you can go to try and to by this specialty, for example on a Stollen Cruise with the Saxon Steamship Company. Or at this year’s Stollen festival on 3 December at the 582nd Dresden Striezelmarkt. Here a thousand portions of the Dresden specialty will be sold to raise money for charity. The “Stollen Festival” has its historic roots in the “Zeithainer Lustlager”, where Augustus the Strong impressed his guests with a stollen weighing 1,800 kilos. Further traditional and local specialties such as “Quarkkeulchen” or Saxon mulled wine make the Dresden Striezelmarkt an attraction during the entire advent season for gourmets and those who have a passion for sweets.
  • Very tasteful and exquisite – those are the words that describe the advent programme of the Saxon State Wine-Growing Estate Schloss Wackerbarth. At the Christmas "Sachsenprobe" you will discover special Saxon wines served with an exquisite 3-course meal. Or discover "Hot White" where your guided tour starts out with mulled wine and “Stollen” and finishes with wine tasting.
  • Falafel, Finish honey and warm sheep’s mild cheese: a delicious alternative to the classic Christmas market fare can be found at the Augustusmarkt on the main street between the “Golden Horseman” and Jorge-Gomondai-Platz from 25 November to 23 December. Here you can find one fantastic international delicacy after the other. Let yourself be swept away by oriental spices, Danish glögg and an unforgettable atmosphere under golden-white pagodas.
