The city of song and sound

The end of the year is just the right time to get the cobwebs out of your voice and tune in to the world around, it’s the time to come together and sing and celebrate. If you can sing, celebrate and do some good at the same time, as you can at the HOPE-Gala Dresden, so much the better. And we have also listed a few of the other great things you can do.

  • On 12 November, presenter Mirja du Mont invites you to join her in the Dresden Schauspielhaus theatre for the 11th HOPE-Gala. The star-studded line-up includes musical legends such as Albert Hammond and Julia Neigel. The songwriter, who was inducted into the “Songwriters Hall of Fame” in 2008, and the German singer, whose voice spans more than three octaves, are donating the money they would have received to the HIV and AIDS project „HOPE Cape Town“ in South Africa.
  • During the Jazztage Dresden, from 4 to 13 November, music will be ringing forth from 14 different stages in and around Dresden. This international jazz festival always attracts many jazz greats. The highlights this year include the 3rd Blues Night that will take place in Theatre Meißen on 5 November and the concert by Max Mutzke in Erlwein-Capitol in Ostra Park on 8 November.
  • If you are an amateur singer then Dresden is the place for you. For example, at 5 pm on 4 December, Advent singing will take place in the Martin Luther Church, accompanied by the church’s brass ensemble. Advent songs and carols will be sung on 27 November and 14 December in the Semper Opera House together with the operatic ensemble and the Advent Concert and Christmas market in the Weinbergkirche in Pillnitz on 10 December invite you to come on in and sing along or even just enjoy the feeling of community.
